Places to visit in Ogliastra
Jerzu and the Tacchi D'Ogliastra
Ogliastra
For
Places to visit in Ogliastra choose the
magical beauty of Sardinia’s east coast; here you see the
splendid nature at its best.
This area, sandwiched between the sea and
the mountains, has an unlimited number of unique landscapes. A
clear crystal sea laps against the long richly-shaped
coastline, made of sunny beaches alternating with majestic
cliffs that rise up proudly to dominate the sea. Without shame,
we can say that this is Sardinia’s wildest and most beautiful
coastline. Small isolated sandy bays such as Cala Mariolu, Cala
Luna, Cala Biriola, Cala Sisine and Goloritzé are
uncontaminated charming jewels.
Stupendous oases jammed between the sea and rock covered by the
green of the moss, they maintain their ruggedness and wildness,
forming one of the Mediterranean’s most magical coastlines.
Another spell is cast by the nature, which climbs uninterrupted
over the hills right up to the mountains of the Gennargentu,
showing at every step what its creativity has been capable of
making, and satisfying one’s eyes with the unique beauty of the
landscape.
Ogliastra is an area full of places to
visit. Man has lived there for centuries, respecting the land,
and creating a harmonious marriage with the environment. A
place where a fleeting glance isn’t enough.
This is Ogliastra, an authentic and
fascinating historical region of Sardinia!
Jerzu
Jerzu is known as the
" città del
vino", in fact it’s famous in the whole
region for the quality of its wine, Cannonau, whose name is
derived from the particular type of grape used. The town is
built at 500 m amsl on the slopes of a hill wedged between
the mountains and the sea, and surrounded by imposing
limestone tacchi. Beaches 20km away (Marina di Cardedu and Gairo
).
The archeological richness of the
territory with its nuragic villages and the domus de
janas
is
increasingly of interest to both students and experts. There
are no less than 30 nuraghi and in the tacco del Monte Corongiu
there is a Punic necropolis and hut from the same period. The
wood uphill from the town where the church is S. Antonio is
situated is charming.
Escursioni in
Ogliastra
The Tacchi
d'Ogliastra are wild places, unique in Sardinia, where you can
enjoy uncontaminated natural environments and see many prized
species of plants and animals such as the Golden Eagle, the
Muflon and centuries-old Holm oak forests.
The Tacchi
are dolomitic limestone outcrops, so-called because they
resemble the upturned heel of s shoe. Perda Liana is the most
famous example. The Tacchi extend over an area of about 28
square km over the territories of the communes of Ulassai,
Osini, Gairo e Ussassai.
The area includes, in addition, the Tacco of Monte Tisiddu,
Monte Arquerì, the Tacco Arba of Ussassai, Monte Lumburau, the
Taccu Anguil'e Ferru e Punta Corongiu of Jerzu.
Perda Liana
is Sardinia’s most famous natural monument: it rises up,
isolated, at almost 1300m and it’s truly spectacular to see it
towering up from afar. The poet Sebastiano Satta described it
like this in his poems: "the red mountains of red carnations, black
eagles go to meet the sun, the high divine Gennargentu glows in
the evening ".
The region
of the Tacchi d'Ogliastra is characterised by extensive
outcrops of Paleozoic rock, for the
major part metamorphic, with philladic schists and Silurian
sandstones, which constitute the bedrock on which are laid down
in irregular layers the Mesozoic carbonates of the "Serie dei
Calcari". It’s possible to find fine calcite and dolomite
crystals. At the foot of Monte Tisiddu part of the jawbone with
teeth belonging to a fossilized fish, in all probability
belonging to the family Picnodus.
The area of the Tacchi is rich in nuragic complexes and there
are 14 nuraghi in the area, of which Serbissi situated at 964 m amsl,
Urceni, Is
Cocorronis, Mela, Sanu, Su Samuccu and
Pranu have
been the object of study. In the area only 4 Tombe dei
Giganti have been found, making us think that either
other forms of burial were used, or that others have been
destroyed.
It’s hard to
describe in words how you feel when you’re in the Tacchi
d'Ogliastra!
